Item Description

WWF Raw hit the original Xbox in February 2002, just months before the World Wrestling Federation became World Wrestling Entertainment. That timing makes it the last game released under the WWF name and the first WWE game on Microsoft's console, a small piece of wrestling history and a snapshot of the roster that closed out the Attitude Era.

THQ handed the project to Anchor Inc., the Japanese studio behind the Dreamcast's Ultimate Fighting Championship, and that grappling background shows in a game that leans on spectacle. Detailed wrestler models and over-the-top entrances were a showcase for the new Xbox hardware early in its life. The Create-A-Wrestler mode is the standout, a deep suite that IGN singled out for praise, and multiplayer split-screen bouts make it a living-room game. The AI is famously tough, so beating it on your own takes real practice.

Reviews were split, with IGN scoring it a 9.1 while GameSpot felt it fell short of expectations, and a sequel, WWE Raw 2, followed the next year. A PC version also appeared, and it would be thirteen years before another WWE game reached PC with WWE 2K15. For collectors chasing that final WWF logo, or for wrestling fans building an early Xbox shelf, it is the place the console's wrestling story begins.

About the game

WWF Raw (also known as WWE Raw or WWF Raw is War, depending on version) is a video game released on the Microsoft Xbox and Microsoft Windows by THQ in 2002. It is based on the television series of the same name. It was the first WWE game released on the Xbox and also the last WWE game released on PC until the release of WWE 2K15 thirteen years later in 2015. A sequel was released in 2003. It is also the last game released under the WWF name, as the World Wrestling Federation changed its name to "World Wrestling Entertainment" in May of that year.
