Why it matters

The flood came, and the characters changed

Rise of the Floodborn arrived in November 2023, three months after the first set, and it is where Lorcana's story started to mean something. The Floodborn are the game's own invention: characters remade by a flood of ink, drawn as versions of themselves no Disney film ever showed — a Beast who is a Tragic Hero, a Cinderella who is a Ballroom Sensation, a Mufasa who stands as Champion of the Pride Lands. The set added Resist, the first new keyword, and the first cards that reward you for shifting.

It was also the set that proved the first one wasn't a fluke: the enchanted rarity returned with its own twelve, the game's organised play opened, and the Floodborn characters became the ones players build around. Every card here is priced to the live market; the ones at $40 and up are photographed as the exact card you'll receive.

Did you know?"Floodborn" is a Lorcana word, not a Disney one: the set's premise is that a flood of ink remade familiar characters into new versions of themselves.
Did you know? The Beast, Tragic Hero is the chapter's signature card — a Floodborn Beast that grows as he takes damage, drawn in a style the films never used.
Did you know?Resist, introduced here, is the first keyword added after launch: a character with Resist +2 shrugs off two damage from every hit.
Did you know?Floodborn cards carry a distinct ink-splash frame, which is the quickest way to spot one in a binder — and the reason the chapter's cards photograph so well.
Did you know? The chapter's enchanted cards are numbered 205 to 216, like the first set's; the Beast, Tragic Hero enchanted is the one most collectors chase.
Did you know?Lorcana sets are called chapters because the game's story is told across them — the Floodborn are the second chapter's event, and later sets keep referring back to the flood.
Did you know? The set released three months after The First Chapter, the fastest gap in the game's schedule; chapters have settled at roughly every three months since.
Did you know?Shift got its first real support here — cards that reward you for shifting rather than just allowing it — which is why Floodborn decks play differently from First Chapter ones.
