Built like a lunchbox, played like a legend. Melee, Wind Waker, Metroid Prime and the mini-discs that hold them.
The GameCube launched in 2001 with a handle, a tiny disc and a price $100 under the PlayStation 2. It finished the generation in third place — and then something strange happened: the games kept getting more valuable every year.
Super Smash Bros. Melee is still played competitively. Metroid Prime, Wind Waker, Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door and Twin Snakes never left "best of" lists. The GameCube is the rare console that collectors rediscovered rather than remembered.
Start with a familiar favorite, explore a theme, or browse by what’s included.
Counts are listings in stock — the same game can appear more than once in different packaging.
Melee, Sunshine, Wind Waker, Metroid Prime — the first-party run that made the GameCube a collector favorite.
Resident Evil, Twin Snakes, Crystal Chronicles: third-party exclusives worth hunting.
Rogue Leader, LEGO Star Wars, Spider-Man and the movie games that actually delivered.
Madden, NBA Street, Need for Speed and the Tiger Woods years.
Sealed copies, the PAL Wind Waker Limited Edition, Japanese imports, Player's Choice and the demo discs Nintendo never sold — the copies that don't come around twice.
Japanese GameCube cases are smaller, come with an outer sleeve, and line up on a shelf like paperbacks: Biohazard Zero, Four Swords, Pokémon Channel, Mario Party with the microphone. Needs a Freeloader or a Japanese console.
P.N.03, Viewtiful Joe, killer7, Resident Evil 4 — the famous 2002 announcement of five GameCube exclusives. Dead Phoenix was canceled, RE4 went to PS2, and the four that shipped are the most interesting Capcom of the decade.
Tales of Symphonia and Baten Kaitos: Eternal Wings — two Namco RPGs with nothing in common except a purple box and a serious price tag. Baten Kaitos Origins came later with Nintendo's name on it.
Resident Evil (the remake), Zero, 2, 3, Code: Veronica X, Resident Evil 4 — the whole series lived on the GameCube for a while, as new games, remakes and ports. Collect the room, then compare the three kinds of release.
Soulcalibur II with Link. NBA Street V3 with Mario, Luigi and Peach. SSX On Tour with the Nintendo guests. Bloody Roar: Primal Fury's exclusive fighter. The multiplatform games where the GameCube copy got something the others didn't.
Beyond Good & Evil, Eternal Darkness, Chibi-Robo!, Billy Hatcher, Geist, Odama, Rogue Ops, XIII — distinctive games whose next chapters appeared elsewhere, or nowhere. Decide whether spiritual successors count before you start.
Released during the transition to the Wii, 2006 onward: Twilight Princess (also on Wii, better here), Chibi-Robo, Baten Kaitos Origins, Meet the Robinsons, and Madden NFL 08 — the very last disc, pressed in August 2007.
Pikmin, Pikmin 2, Chibi-Robo!, The Ant Bully, LEGO Star Wars — small heroes labouring in a world built at a much larger scale. Organized, underpaid, and frequently eaten.
Animal Crossing, Chibi-Robo!, Harvest Moon: A Wonderful Life, The Sims, Luigi's vacuum, Mario's water pack — domestic tasks, deliveries, cleanup and routines become the point. The GameCube as a small appliance.
Super Monkey Ball, Super Monkey Ball 2, Billy Hatcher and the Giant Egg, Kirby Air Ride, Odama, Sonic — movement itself is the toy, whether ball, egg, star or hedgehog.
The Wind Waker, Viewtiful Joe, XIII, Cel Damage, killer7, Paper Mario, Piglet's Big Game — illustrated appearance and expressive animation rather than genre. The GameCube's real house style.
Player's Choice: the yellow-and-silver band on the million-sellers (Melee, Luigi's Mansion, Pikmin, Sunshine). Cheaper, later, the easy way in — the plain first prints sit beside them for the variant-minded.
The Zelda Collector's Edition, Ocarina of Time / Master Quest, the Pokémon Colosseum bonus disc, the kiosk demo discs — promotional editions Nintendo pressed and never sold. Their own category, their own prices.
Melee, Rogue Leader, Luigi's Mansion, Super Monkey Ball, Pikmin, the first Mario Party — the launch year, when the purple lunchbox still felt like a good idea.
Watching TV with a Pikachu. A Pac-Man game that needs a Game Boy Advance. Piglet's Big Game. Cabela's, twice. The GameCube said yes.
A vacuum cleaner. A water backpack. A conductor's baton. Pikmin. Spyro's breath and Tak's juju — this is not a lightsaber shelf.
Melee, Mario Party, Monkey Ball, NBA Street, LEGO Star Wars, Turtles, Mario Power Tennis — four controllers, one television, and no headset. The GameCube's real killer app.
Four Swords Adventures and Crystal Chronicles want a Game Boy Advance per player; Pac-Man Vs. needs one on a cable; Animal Crossing, Wind Waker and Metroid Prime merely reward it. Optional, required, or required for multiplayer — record which.
Donkey Konga, Donkey Konga 2, Donkey Kong Jungle Beat, and Donkey Konga 3 if you import — one pair of plastic bongos, three completely different uses, and a platformer played by clapping.
Mario Kart: Double Dash!!, Kirby Air Ride, 1080° Avalanche — the three games that talk to each other over the Broadband Adapter. Eight consoles, eight televisions, one very committed group of friends.
Phantasy Star Online Episode I & II, Episode III, Homeland — the handful of GameCube games actually built for the modem and broadband adapters. The servers are gone; the community ones aren't.
Shark Tale, Madagascar, Cars, Meet the Robinsons — every computer-animated film of the decade came with a GameCube disc, and most of them cost less than the popcorn did.
Splinter Cell, Rainbow Six, The Sum of All Fears, Call of Duty, Medal of Honor, Rogue Ops, Dead to Rights — the GameCube's grown-up shelf, for people who owned a purple console anyway.
Tiger Woods, John Madden, Tom Clancy, Kobe in Courtside, Ricky Carmichael in MX Superfly, Dave Mirra — games that exist because an agent returned the call.
Mario Party 4 through 7, Mario Kart: Double Dash!!, Melee, Super Monkey Ball 2 — fast local competition with plenty of opportunities for retaliation. Nintendo's most reliable way to lose a friend since blue shells.
Eternal Darkness fakes a broken TV. killer7 fakes reality. Twin Snakes reads your memory card. Metroid Prime shows Samus's face in the visor. Games that play with perception, framing and the person on the couch.
Eternal Darkness, Resident Evil, Geist, Luigi's Mansion, BloodRayne, Hunter: The Reckoning, Second Sight as the psychic-thriller companion — horror across camera styles, combat systems and tones. The purple console did dread surprisingly well.
Star Fox: Assault, Crash Tag Team Racing, Zoids, Tails in a mech, Kirby on a star, the vehicle minigames in Super Monkey Ball 2 — animals take control of cars, spacecraft and equipment with varying levels of competence.
Rogue Ops. Zoids: Battle Legends. Piglet's Big Game. Pokémon Channel. Mega Man X: Command Mission. Metal Gear Solid: The Twin Snakes. Somebody signed off on all of these.
Tales of Symphonia, Baten Kaitos, Skies of Arcadia, Crystal Chronicles, Fire Emblem, Thousand-Year Door — the GameCube's short, strange RPG list, and half of it is now expensive.
Luigi vacuums ghosts. Mario cleans an island. Donkey Kong is played by clapping. Wario wrestles. Pokémon go 3D. Battalion Wars, Chibi-Robo, Odama, Geist — familiar characters (and a studio) in unfamiliar jobs.
Resident Evil, Resident Evil 4, Tales of Symphonia, Baten Kaitos, Twin Snakes, Killer7, Enter the Matrix — GameCube minis held 1.5 GB, so the main game spans two. Bonus discs don't count; missing disc 2 does.
Super Monkey Ball, Sonic Adventure 2 Battle, Skies of Arcadia Legends, F-Zero GX (built by Sega's Amusement Vision), Phantasy Star Online, Home Run King — the once-unthinkable partnership, four years after the Genesis. Nobody told 1992.
A wider mix — sports, puzzles, licensed games and the deep cuts.
