Why Magic

The card game that invented the category

Richard Garfield designed Magic in 1993 as something to play while waiting for a board game to set up. Thirty years later it is the deepest collectible in the hobby: more than 27,000 unique cards, a Reserved List that will never be reprinted, and a secondary market that behaves like a stock exchange.

Cards $40 and up are photographed — the front of the exact card you’d receive. Lower-priced singles show a stock image, and we’ll send photos of your card on request. Every single is priced against the live market. Sets are how a Magic collection is organized — that is why the shelves below are sorted by set type, from block expansions to Secret Lair.
