Why it matters

A card game that sold out before anyone had played it

Ravensburger launched Disney Lorcana in game stores on August 18, 2023 and everywhere else two weeks later, and the first printing was gone almost immediately — stores limited booster packs per customer, the trove boxes resold at multiples, and a card game nobody had played yet had a secondary market. The First Chapter is the set that did it: 204 cards drawn across Disney's whole catalogue, from Steamboat Willie to Moana, in a style that looked like nothing else on a card shop's wall.

The chase was the enchanted rarity — twelve full-art foil versions numbered beyond the set, Elsa as the Spirit of Winter above all — and the alternate-art Mickey Mouse, Artful Rogue that leads our shelf. The game underneath turned out to be good: two inks per deck, questing for lore instead of attacking for damage, a Shift mechanic that lets a card step onto an earlier version of the same character. Every card here is priced to the live market; the ones at $40 and up are photographed as the exact card you'll receive.
