Item Description

Jace, Cunning Castaway is Jace at his most resourceful: shipwrecked on Ixalan with no memory, he survives on illusions and wits. For three mana you get a planeswalker with 3 loyalty and three abilities that all reward clever play. His +1 sets up a turn in which each creature hit on an opponent lets you draw a card and then discard one, filtering your hand while you attack.

His -2 makes a 2/2 blue Illusion token that is sacrificed when it becomes the target of a spell, a cheap blocker that protects him or pressures an opponent. The -5 ultimate is pure flavor and pure fun: create two tokens that are copies of Jace, except they are not legendary, leaving you with three Jaces making Illusions and looting every turn. In Commander and casual tempo decks, that ultimate turns one planeswalker into an army of them.

This is the San Diego Comic-Con 2018 printing, collector number 60, with alternate art by Terese Nielsen, part of the exclusive planeswalker set Wizards of the Coast sold at San Diego Comic-Con that year. Convention exclusives like this sit at the crossroads of Magic and pop-culture collecting, and Nielsen's painterly style makes the castaway a binder standout.
