Item Description

Dean Stark wants to be a Golem Hunter more than anything, and in a backwater village on Filgaia, that dream feels very far away. Then a giant Golem falls from the sky, and in its hand is an amnesiac girl named Avril, who remembers only two words: Johnny Appleseed. Built to celebrate the series' tenth anniversary, Wild Arms 5 spins that mystery into a sweeping adventure set on a world where the alien Veruni have ruled humanity for a hundred years.

Dean's party is one of the warmest in the series: his sharper childhood friend Rebecca Streisand, the quiet and determined Avril, Greg the Golem Crusher, who is hunting his family's killer, the boastful hunter Chuck Preston and the shy, brilliant Carol Anderson. Even Asgard, the Golem that dropped Avril into Dean's life, fights at their side. The western flavor of the early games is back in force, with sweeping vistas, a frontier mood and a story about kids taking on a far bigger power.

Media.Vision refined the HEX battle system from Wild Arms 4 into something faster and more strategic. Encounters take place across hexagonal zones, some with special properties, and your three-person party moves between them to set up attacks and avoid danger. A Force meter builds with physical attacks and fuels Original moves, Team Combos and Guardian summons. ARMs return with a twist: characters reload by defending, and different cartridges add firepower in battle and solve puzzles in the field, from hitting faraway switches to breaking obstacles and lighting torches.

The anniversary spirit runs throughout, with characters from earlier Wild Arms games turning up in sidequests as a reward for longtime fans, and a score by Masato Kouda and Noriyasu Agematsu that keeps the western swagger alive. Wild Arms 5 drew solid reviews and is often counted among the better-regarded entries, and it was the final main-series Wild Arms game. That makes this PS2 release the series' closing chapter, a heartfelt farewell to Filgaia.

About the game

Developed for the 10th anniversary of the series, Wild Arms 5 follows a group of young travelers as they fight for their dying land. Players guide the rag-tag bunch of heroes through a 3D world full of adventure and combat. While jumping, sliding, and stomping through the environment to complete the main objective, gamers can also engage in mini-games and side quests for money and rare items. Although the story revolves around new characters, the HEX battle system returns and several known avatars make cameo appearances during the game. Duel-pistol wielding skills make their debut in Wild Arms 5, and allow gamers to shoot different bullets that solve puzzles located throughout the adventure.
