Item Description

Every person walking past you on a London street in Watch Dogs: Legion is a potential hero. The pensioner at the bus stop, the construction worker on a lunch break, the spy in a tailored suit: profile any of them, help them out, and they can join DedSec as a playable character with their own background, voice and skills. Ubisoft Toronto built the entire game around that idea, and in 2020 it was one of the boldest open-world experiments on console.

The setting is a near-future London that has slid into a surveillance state. After DedSec is framed for a wave of bombings by a shadowy hacker group called Zero Day, the private military company Albion takes control of the streets while the crime syndicate Clan Kelley thrives in the chaos. Your job is to rebuild the resistance borough by borough, liberating each area and turning the city's own drones, cameras and networks against the people running it, with Bagley, DedSec's sardonic AI, keeping you company the whole way.

Recruiting is where the fun lives. A construction worker can summon a cargo drone and ride it up onto rooftops, an Albion operative can walk into restricted zones in uniform, and a spy comes with a gadget-loaded car. A hacker's spiderbot can crawl through vents and finish a job without anyone setting foot inside. You can even switch on permadeath, so an operative lost in the field is gone for good, which gives every recruit's story real stakes.

Reviewers praised its ambition and its playground of a city, even if the play-as-anyone design meant fewer handcrafted lead characters than earlier entries. It completes the Watch Dogs trilogy that began in Chicago and moved to San Francisco, and its rain-slick, drone-filled London is the most distinctive setting of the three.
