For more than a decade, boxing fans had little to play but old copies of EA's Fight Night Champion from 2011. Undisputed set out to end that drought. Developed by Steel City Interactive and published by Deep Silver, it spent time in Early Access on PC before arriving on PS5 in October 2024 as a full licensed boxing simulation, built from the ground up around the sweet science rather than arcade knockouts.
The control scheme is the first thing that clicks. Jabs, hooks and uppercuts sit on the face buttons, holding L1 turns them into body shots and holding R1 loads them up into power punches, while the triggers handle blocking and evasive leans. It is easy to pick up, but the real depth comes from distance, timing and stamina. A fatigue meter governs everything: throw wild combinations early and your punches will be noticeably weaker by the later rounds, which makes patience and shot selection as important as raw aggression.
More than 70 licensed fighters from across the sport's history fill the roster, including Muhammad Ali, Joe Frazier, Tyson Fury and Deontay Wilder, alongside women boxers as well, which opens up dream matchups across eras and weight classes. Career mode takes a created or real fighter from small gyms to stadium cards, with fight preparation, weight and fitness management and costly injuries to handle along the way, while Prize Fights recreate famous real-life rivalries at multiple difficulty levels. Commentary comes from Todd Grisham and Johnny Nelson, and the venues range from gritty local gyms to huge outdoor arenas.
Undisputed is not a button-mashing brawler, and that is its appeal. It rewards players who study their opponent, manage their gas tank and pick their moments, and when a well-timed counter finally drops a rival in the tenth round, it feels earned. After years without a serious boxing game, it gives the sport a proper home on PS5.
