Item Description

Few series ever improved as dramatically between two games as Uncharted did between 2007 and 2009, and the Uncharted Dual Pack lets you watch it happen back to back. This PlayStation 3 release pairs Naughty Dog's Uncharted: Drake's Fortune with Uncharted 2: Among Thieves, the first two adventures of treasure hunter Nathan Drake, and it makes a natural starting point for anyone coming to the series fresh.

Drake's Fortune begins with the coffin of Sir Francis Drake, which holds a diary rather than a body, and follows the clues to a forgotten Pacific island and the legend of El Dorado. Drake, his mentor Sully and journalist Elena Fisher fight through jungle ruins, a Spanish fortress and a U-boat stranded in a river, trading barbs all the way. It is the game that established the formula: cover-based gunfights, acrobatic climbing, light puzzles and a pulp-adventure story with real charm.

Among Thieves takes that formula and goes much bigger. Drake's hunt for Marco Polo's lost fleet and the Cintamani Stone runs from a museum heist in Istanbul to a war-torn city in Nepal and the frozen peaks of Tibet, with Chloe Frazer and Harry Flynn joining the cast and Zoran Lazarević as a ruthless rival. The set pieces are what people remember: the opening in a train car dangling off a cliff, a collapsing building with a helicopter on Drake's tail, and the famous train level. It collected a shelf of Game of the Year awards in 2009.

Played together, the two games tell a story of their own. Drake's Fortune shows the ideas taking shape under Amy Hennig's direction, and Among Thieves shows Naughty Dog mastering them, with smoother climbing, stealth takedowns and storytelling that flows straight into gameplay. Both are tied together by Greg Edmonson's score and the warm, funny chemistry between Nolan North's Drake and the people around him. As a single PS3 release, the Dual Pack is a tidy way to keep the series' first two chapters side by side on the shelf, ready for a run up to Uncharted 3.
