Complete in box: the disc, the manual and the original case, all original; anything beyond that is included only if you can see it in the photos. The photos are our own, taken from our stock of this game — look them over for condition, packaging and details. Discs are professionally resurfaced when they need it and tested before listing. It ships in a collector's bag or a hard plastic case.
Nathan Drake's first adventure opens with an empty coffin hauled up off the coast of Panama, a journalist filming the whole thing and a boatload of pirates closing in, and within minutes the game has made its case. This is a pulpy, sun-bleached treasure hunt in the spirit of a Saturday matinee serial, and on the PlayStation 3 in 2007 nothing else looked or moved quite like it. Naughty Dog, the studio behind Crash Bandicoot and Jak and Daxter, set its cartoon mascots aside for a wisecracking everyman who climbs, shoots and talks his way across a forgotten Pacific island in search of El Dorado.
The rhythm is what made it a template. Nate scrambles up crumbling Spanish fortress walls and leaps between handholds over sheer drops, then slides into cover as Gabriel Roman's mercenaries and Eddy Raja's pirates pour into the courtyard. Gunfights lean on cover and flanking, grenades are lobbed with a tilt of the Sixaxis controller, and the pace is broken up by jet ski runs up flooded channels and puzzles solved with the help of Sir Francis Drake's diary. The route takes in jungle ruins, a drowned colonial town, a German U-boat stranded improbably far inland and a monastery hiding the island's oldest secret, and late in the story the island reveals something far worse than hired guns.
What players remember most are the three leads. Nolan North's Nate is cocky and fallible, Emily Rose makes Elena Fisher a reporter who refuses to be left on the boat, and Richard McGonagle's cigar-chewing Victor Sullivan is the mentor who always seems to owe somebody money. Their banter, shaped by game director Amy Hennig and her team, gives the game a buddy-movie warmth, and Greg Edmonson's sweeping score introduced the theme the series would carry for years.
Drake's Fortune is the foundation for everything that followed: Among Thieves in 2009, the trilogy that built the PlayStation 3's reputation for cinematic adventure, and A Thief's End on the PS4. It is the rawest entry, with tougher firefights and fewer set pieces, but that gives it a scrappy charm of its own, and seeing where Nate, Elena and Sully first met makes every later reunion land harder. Sony kept it in print for years, including a red-banner Greatest Hits release, but the PlayStation 3 is where the story started.
A 400-year-old clue in the coffin of Sir Francis Drake sets a modern-day fortune hunter on an exploration for the fabled treasure of El Dorado, leading to the discovery of a forgotten island in the middle of the Pacific Ocean. The search turns deadly when Nathan Drake becomes stranded on the island and hunted by mercenaries. Outnumbered and outgunned, Drake and his companions must fight to survive as they begin to unravel the terrible secrets hidden on the Island.
