Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3 is the kind of crossover that only makes sense in a fighting game, and Capcom's update of Fate of Two Worlds turned it into one of the loudest, fastest and most gloriously chaotic fighters ever made. This PlayStation 4 version arrived in 2016, bringing the 2011 release to a new console generation along with the downloadable fighters and costumes from its original run.

Matches pit teams of three against each other, and the fun lies in how freely they combine. Partners jump in for assists at the tap of a button, Team Aerial Combos launch an opponent skyward and let you swap characters mid-juggle, and Delayed Hyper Combos chain one character's super straight into another's for screen-filling damage. X-Factor, retuned for Ultimate, gives a losing team a short burst of speed and power that can turn a hopeless round on its head, and it is responsible for some of the most outrageous comebacks you will ever see.

Ultimate added twelve fighters to the roster: Strider Hiryu, Vergil, Firebrand, Nemesis, Frank West and Phoenix Wright on Capcom's side, and Doctor Strange, Ghost Rider, Hawkeye, Iron Fist, Nova and Rocket Raccoon on Marvel's. They join a lineup that already counted Ryu, Chun-Li, Dante, Wesker, Wolverine, Spider-Man, Deadpool and Magneto, all drawn in a bold, inked comic-book style that lets them share the screen naturally. Ultimate also introduced Heroes and Heralds, a card-powered mode pitting the two sides against Galactus's forces, and it is fun trivia that Rocket Raccoon was throwing punches here years before his blockbuster movie fame.

UMvC3 became a fixture of competitive play and a longtime main-stage game at Evo, where its lightning-fast, high-damage combos produced moments fans still replay. The community kept coming back to it long after its successor arrived, and the PS4 release puts that complete, polished version of the game on a modern Sony console.

Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3 is a crossover fighting game developed by Capcom in collaboration with Eighting. It is an updated version of Marvel vs. Capcom 3: Fate of Two Worlds. The game features characters from both Capcom's video game franchises and comic book series published by Marvel Comics. The game was released in November 2011 for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, and was featured as a launch title for the PlayStation Vita in 2012. In Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3, players select a team of three characters to engage in combat and attempt to knock out their opponents. As an update, the game utilizes largely identical gameplay mechanics to the original. However, both the aerial combat and X-Factor systems, introduced in Fate of Two Worlds, have received adjustments. In addition to gameplay modifications and new playable characters, the game features several aesthetic changes. After the events of the 2011 Tōhoku earthquake and tsunami disrupted the development schedule for downloadable content for Fate of Two Worlds, the additional content was created into a standalone title, Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3, for a discounted retail price.
