Item Description

Twisted Metal 4 arrived on the PlayStation in 1999, putting the keys to the franchise in the hands of 989 Studios and delivering one of the most chaotic, over-the-top entries in the entire vehicular combat series. Where the earlier games leaned into dark carnival atmosphere and grim storytelling, TM4 cranked the personality dial all the way up — brighter, faster, and packed with an enormous roster of unlockable vehicles that kept players busy long after the credits rolled. The villain Sweet Tooth gets flipped into the role of the one who needs to be stopped rather than simply feared, and the whole thing has an anarchic energy that made it a genuine crowd-pleaser during the PS1's golden years.

The gameplay is pure demolition derby chaos in the best possible way. You choose your driver, load up with homing missiles, freeze blasts, and the signature special weapon unique to each vehicle, and then tear through destructible arenas trying to be the last car rolling. The level design in TM4 is notably creative, with stages that hide shortcuts, hazards, and environmental weapons for players willing to explore. The vehicle creator feature added a layer of customization that was genuinely ahead of its time for the genre, letting you mix and match parts to build something truly your own.

The Greatest Hits label on this copy is a badge of honor in its own right — it means the game sold well enough to earn Sony's budget re-release designation, which speaks to how popular Twisted Metal 4 was during the PlayStation era. For collectors, a complete-in-box Greatest Hits copy is a satisfying piece of PS1 history, with the red spine sitting neatly on a shelf next to other CIB classics of the period. The manual is a particularly welcome inclusion, full of vehicle stats, control layouts, and the kind of printed game documentation that simply doesn't exist anymore.

Twisted Metal 4 holds up as a couch multiplayer classic. Two players, split attention, and whoever picked Axel tends to regret it — the arguments over vehicle choice were half the fun. The soundtrack hammers along with aggressive industrial and metal-flavored tracks that fit the demolition theme perfectly, and the whole experience has that chunky, satisfying PS1 feel that modern games genuinely can't replicate.

This complete-in-box copy is perfect for the PlayStation 1 collector building out their library, the vehicular combat fan who wants the full package rather than a loose disc, or anyone chasing a hit of late-90s multiplayer nostalgia with all the original materials intact.
