Item Description
A boy, a troll and a forest full of men with rifles: Troll and I sets its odd-couple adventure in the wilds of 1950s Scandinavia. Otto, a teenage boy, befriends a fabled troll straight out of Nordic folklore, and the two outcasts set off through the wilderness together, struggling to survive as hunters close in on them.
The game is built around switching between the pair. Otto is quick and nimble, crafting his own weapons and tools from what he scavenges, sneaking through the undergrowth for stealthy takedowns, and even climbing onto the troll's back to fight with spears. The troll is pure power, stomping hunters with his massive feet and smashing them aside with giant fists. Obstacles and puzzles lean on both, Otto's craft and the troll's strength, and a second player can take control of the other character in local co-op on the same couch.
Developed by the UK studio Spiral House and published by Maximum Games in 2017, it is a modestly budgeted adventure, and reviewers were hard on its rough combat and technical wobbles. What it has is an unusual setting and a sincere heart, a story of friendship and loyalty against a mid-century Nordic backdrop that very few games have explored. It is an offbeat corner of the PS4 library that rarely gets talked about now, and that obscurity is part of its charm.
