Item Description
In Final Fantasy III, the Crystals of Light have shadowy counterparts, and Magic's Final Fantasy set gives that darker power a legendary artifact of its own. The Darkness Crystal is the black entry in the set's cycle of crystal artifacts, and it plays like something a villain would keep on a pedestal: your black spells cost one less, and whenever a nontoken creature an opponent controls would die, it is exiled instead and you gain 2 life.
That exile clause is where the fun starts. Every creature your opponents lose goes into a private collection, and for six mana and a tap you can pull any of them back onto your side of the table, tapped and carrying two extra +1/+1 counters. Board wipes become recruitment drives, and every destroy effect you aim at an opponent's threat quietly stocks your bench. Because those creatures never actually die, it also blanks death triggers and keeps them out of graveyards that recursion decks want to dig through. In a black Commander deck built around removal, theft and long, grinding games, it pulls triple duty as cost reducer, life source and reanimation engine.
