Item Description

Every corner of Japan seems to have a convenience store glowing through the night, and The Conveni asks what it would take to own that corner. This 1997 Sega Saturn business simulation, developed by Masterpiece and published by Human Entertainment, hands you a store, a town and a set of rivals, and its goal is as simple as it is addictive: become the top conveni in town.

The fun lives in the details of running the place. You size up the competing stores nearby, study what the neighborhood actually wants and decide what goes on your shelves to meet that demand, then manage the business side of keeping it profitable. Get the mix right and customers keep coming back; misread the local market and a rival across the street will happily take them. It is the kind of management loop that turns an evening into a week of "just one more business day," built around a slice of Japanese daily life that most games never think to simulate.

Human was one of the more adventurous publishers of the 90s, the company behind Fire Pro Wrestling and Clock Tower, and The Conveni fits that independent streak. It is a game about something ordinary made fascinating by its systems, which is exactly the sort of curiosity the Saturn's Japanese library is famous for. The concept clearly struck a chord: Hamster brought The Conveni back on modern consoles in 2026 as part of its Console Archives line.

Owning it on the Saturn means having this quirky management sim in its original 1990s form. Some Japanese reading helps with the menus and reports, but the appeal of building a little retail empire one store and one shelf at a time translates to anyone who has ever sunk a weekend into a tycoon game.
