Item Condition
This copy of Super Castlevania IV is complete in box, arriving with the cartridge, original box, and manual all accounted for. The box shows some general wear consistent with age — expect creasing, corner softening, or shelf patina typical of SNES-era packaging that has lived a full life. The manual and cartridge are present and intact, with the cart having been tested and found to be playing as it should, though performance on any vintage cartridge can vary depending on the console and setup you're using. Please refer to the provided photos for the exact details of the item's condition.
Item Description
Few games announced a console's potential quite like Super Castlevania IV did for the Super Nintendo. Released in 1991, it arrived as one of the flagship titles of the SNES launch window, and it wasted no time showing the world what 16-bit hardware was capable of. Mode 7 effects sent chandeliers spinning overhead and staircases warping into the darkness below, while the expanded color palette draped Dracula's domain in shades of gothic purple and sickly green that the NES could only have dreamed of. For many players, this was the first time Castlevania felt genuinely cinematic.
At its heart, Super Castlevania IV is a reimagining of the original Castlevania, following Simon Belmont on his relentless march through Transylvania toward the lord of darkness himself. But where the NES original was uncompromising to the point of brutality, this entry gave Simon real momentum — an eight-directional whip that could lash at diagonals, wrap around pillars, and even serve as a brief grappling tool. It changed the feel of the franchise fundamentally, giving the legendary vampire hunter a sense of weight and control that made every screen a pleasure to navigate, even when the enemies hit hard.
Then there is the music. Konami's sound team crafted a soundtrack that stands among the finest ever written for the Super Nintendo, remixing classic themes like Vampire Killer and Bloody Tears into lush, layered arrangements that the SNES sound chip delivered with an almost orchestral warmth. The new compositions matched them stride for stride — haunting, urgent, and perfectly calibrated to each environment. Players who grew up with this game can still hum its boss themes from memory decades later.
As a complete-in-box copy, this one carries something a loose cartridge simply cannot replicate. The original box art — Simon silhouetted against the castle, whip raised, all dramatic shadow and crimson — was striking on store shelves in 1991 and holds up beautifully as a display piece today. The manual walks you through the game's mechanics and enemy bestiary in that wonderfully earnest style of early-90s Nintendo documentation. Having all three pieces together is increasingly uncommon, and it reflects the kind of care that serious SNES collectors look for.
Super Castlevania IV is a natural fit for anyone building a quality SNES library, a Castlevania completionist tracking down the series' finest moments, or a collector who simply appreciates owning a landmark title the right way — box, manual, cartridge, and all.
