Item Description

Ryu squaring off against Kazuya Mishima is the kind of dream match fans had argued over for years, and Street Fighter X Tekken finally put it on screen. Capcom's half of the long-planned crossover pulls Namco's Tekken fighters into Street Fighter's 2D world, with fireballs, dragon punches and launchers sharing the same stage, and teams of two tagging in and out at a frantic, combo-heavy pace.

Watching the Tekken cast adapt is half the fun. Kazuya, Nina Williams, King, Heihachi, Jin, Yoshimitsu and Paul Phoenix keep their trademark strings and throws but gain specials and supers built for a Street Fighter engine, while Ryu, Ken, Chun-Li, Guile, Cammy and company face opponents who juggle and pressure in unfamiliar ways. Cross Rush chains light, medium and heavy attacks into a launcher that tags your partner in, Cross Art fires off both fighters' supers in sequence, and Cross Assault puts both teammates on screen at once, with a friend able to take control of the second fighter. The riskiest tool is Pandora: sacrifice a nearly beaten partner to power up the survivor for a few desperate seconds, then win before the timer runs out or lose the round outright.

Gems add another layer, letting you equip boosts that kick in under set conditions such as landing a string of hits, and Scramble mode drops all four fighters into the arena at once for pure chaos. A story about a mysterious object called Pandora crashing into the Antarctic gives each tag team a reason to brawl, complete with rival battles between the two camps.

The PlayStation 3 release carries a guest list exclusive to Sony's platforms: Cole MacGrath from inFamous, Sony's mascot cats Toro and Kuro, Pac-Man piloting a Mokujin robot and the famously off-model Mega Man from the original NES box art. Namco's planned counterpart, Tekken X Street Fighter, was put on indefinite hold, which leaves this as the only half of the crossover that ever shipped. The PS3 edition captures that one-of-a-kind meeting of two fighting-game dynasties, guest stars and all.
