Five years after Order 66, Cal Kestis is hiding in plain sight, scrapping old warships in the shipbreaking yards of Bracca and never, ever using the Force. One accident changes that, and Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order turns into a desperate chase across the galaxy with the Empire's Inquisitors close behind. Respawn Entertainment's 2019 adventure is a rare thing for a licensed game: an original Star Wars story that feels like it belongs on the big screen.

Cal is not a master but a former Padawan whose training was cut short, and the game's progression reflects that. Fights are deliberate and demanding, inspired by the Souls series: you read enemy attacks, parry at the right instant and pick your moments, and resting at meditation points restores your health but brings defeated enemies back. As Cal reconnects with his past, he regains Force abilities like Push, Pull and Slow, and those powers open new paths through worlds you have already visited, encouraging the kind of backtracking that fans of Metroid-style design love.

The planets are the stars of the show. Ancient tombs on Bogano and Zeffo, the war-torn forests of Kashyyyk, where Cal crosses paths with Saw Gerrera, and the eerie red wastes of Dathomir are packed with secrets, shortcuts and lightsaber parts to customize Cal's weapon. Along the way he gathers a found family aboard the Stinger Mantis: the former Jedi Cere Junda, the four-armed pilot Greez Dritus and BD-1, a small, endlessly charming droid who rides on Cal's back and steals nearly every scene. The Second Sister makes a relentless, memorable antagonist.

Fallen Order launched Cal's story and set up the more ambitious Star Wars Jedi: Survivor, making it the natural place to start the saga. The PlayStation 5 version runs with sharper visuals and smoother performance than the original release, and it is the best way to see why Cal's debut won over so many players who had given up on great Star Wars games.
