Item Description

Two very different people fall into each other's lives in Star Ocean: The Divine Force. Raymond Lawrence is the captain of a merchant starship who crash-lands on an underdeveloped planet after his vessel is attacked. Laeticia Aucerius is a princess of the planet's sword-and-sorcery kingdom, fighting to protect her people from an invading empire. Their meeting is the series' trademark collision of science fiction and fantasy in its purest form, and you decide whose eyes you see it through.

tri-Ace's sixth mainline Star Ocean brings back the Double Hero system from the series' past. Choosing Raymond or Laeticia changes your perspective on events and which allies end up joining your party, so a second playthrough tells a meaningfully different story. Along the way you will build relationships through Private Actions, a long-running Star Ocean tradition, and gather a cast that includes knights, mages and starfaring crew who have never seen a world like this one.

The biggest innovation is D.U.M.A., a mysterious floating drone that attaches to your party leader. It lets you fly and glide across large, open environments, turning exploration into something vertical and fast, and in battle it powers the Vanguard Assault dash and the Blindside move that slips behind an enemy's guard for devastating follow-ups. Real-time combat runs on an AP system that rewards you for customizing combo chains and dodging well, and Motoi Sakuraba, the series' longtime composer, returns with a soaring score.

The Divine Force drew a mixed-to-positive response, praised for its combat and freedom of movement more than its pacing, but it is the most ambitious attempt in years to modernize a series that helped define real-time JRPG battles. For Star Ocean followers it is the natural current-generation chapter, and the PlayStation 5 version is the smoothest way to soar across Aster IV with D.U.M.A. at your back.
