Spellskite is one of the most quietly oppressive cards in Modern, and it has been since its original New Phyrexia printing. The ability to pay two life or a blue/Phyrexian mana symbol to redirect any spell or ability that targets a permanent to Spellskite instead is deceptively simple and brutally effective. It protects your key pieces from targeted removal, blanks pump spells aimed at opposing creatures, and creates persistent headaches for combo decks that rely on targeting their own cards. For a one-mana drop at two colorless, the value-to-mana ratio is exceptional, and its 0/4 body makes it surprisingly stubborn to attack through as well.

Beyond Modern, Spellskite has found a comfortable home in EDH and Commander builds that run artifact-heavy or Phyrexian synergy themes. Any commander deck that leans on a single key creature or permanent will appreciate having a cheap, repeatable redirection shield sitting on the battlefield.
