Item Description
Sauron does not arrive quietly. The Dark Lord is a six-mana Grixis Avatar Horror, a 7/6 whose ward demands that an opponent sacrifice a legendary artifact or legendary creature just to target him. From there he feeds on the table's own momentum: every spell an opponent casts amasses Orcs 1, building an Orc Army that grows whether or not you lift a finger.
That Army is the engine. Whenever an Army you control deals combat damage to a player, the Ring tempts you, and every time the Ring tempts you, you may discard your hand and draw four fresh cards. In Commander that loop turns Sauron into a self-sustaining villain: opponents fuel the horde simply by casting spells, the horde fuels the Ring, and the Ring refills your hand. Add other amass cards, Ring-tempting effects and discard payoffs, and the Eye starts to see everything.
This is the foil prerelease promo from The Lord of the Rings: Tales of Middle-earth, the 2023 Universes Beyond set that brought Tolkien's world to Magic. Prerelease promos were given out at the set's launch-weekend Prerelease events, and this one carries Kieran Yanner's main-set artwork of the Dark Lord, making it a fitting centerpiece for a Sauron Commander deck.
