Item Description

Sakashima's Student is a ninja who never shows up as itself. For four mana, this blue Human Ninja enters as a copy of any creature on the battlefield, yours or an opponent's, and adds Ninja to that copy's creature types. The real trick is ninjutsu: for {1}{U}, you can return an unblocked attacker to your hand and put the Student onto the battlefield tapped and attacking.

Put those together and two mana gets you a copy of the best creature on the table, already attacking. You can also replay the creature you returned to hand, getting its enters-the-battlefield ability again. Because the copy is still a Ninja, it works with Ninja-matters cards and commanders too. In Commander, it can copy an opponent's huge threat for a fraction of the cost or duplicate your own key creature in the middle of combat, which makes it a strong pick for blue Ninja and clone decks alike.

This is the Planechase Anthology printing, collector number 24, illustrated by Brian Snõddy, offered here in non-foil. Planechase Anthology gathered the Planechase decks into one multiplayer box, a fitting home for a card that shines brightest when the table is full of creatures worth copying.
