Item Description
In The Sword in the Stone, Merlin and Madam Mim settle their rivalry with a Wizard's Duel, each shapeshifting into bigger and stranger animals to get the upper hand. The Amethyst & Steel starter deck from Rise of the Floodborn turns that duel into a game plan. Merlin appears in several animal forms, Mim shows up to spar with him, and the deck keeps bouncing characters back to hand so they can be played again, triggering their effects and piling up lore with well-timed combos.
Steel gives that trickery a sturdy backbone. Tiana anchors the deck, a tough princess who draws the opponent's attention and shrugs off damage, while cheap disruption like Pooh's "I'm Stuck" keeps an exerted character from readying. And Heihei is the sleeper star, a persistent chicken that just keeps coming back to your hand.
Rise of the Floodborn was Lorcana's second set, the one that introduced Shift and the Floodborn versions of familiar characters, so this deck is a fun snapshot of the game's early growth. It plays straight out of the box, it's a smart first deck for a new Illumineer who likes clever turns more than brute force, and it gives a returning player a ready-made Amethyst-Steel shell to tinker with.
