Item Description
“Ahh! Opposable digits!” Polymorph's flavor text is pure 1990s Magic whimsy, but the card itself has fueled creative combo decks for decades. For four mana, this blue sorcery destroys target creature, which can't be regenerated, and then its controller reveals cards from the top of their library until they hit a creature card and put it onto the battlefield.
Aim it at an opponent's best creature and it is removal with a random replacement. Aim it at your own token in a deck with only one or two real creatures, though, and it becomes a way to cheat your biggest monster into play for a fraction of its cost. That build-around puzzle is exactly why deck-builders keep coming back to it in Commander and casual formats.
Polymorph comes from Mirage, released in 1996, the set that took Magic to the continent of Jamuraa. This is the Mirage printing, collector number 82, illustrated by Robert Bliss, in non-foil.
