Every cartridge's shell, label and board are checked for authenticity when it comes into the store, and it's tested before it's listed. It ships in a collector's bag or a hard plastic case.

Item Description

Picture it: the clock is ticking, the turn ahead is tightening, and a rival car is drifting into your line just as you shift up for the straight. Pole Position II is Namco's 1983 follow-up to its smash-hit racer, and on the Atari 7800 it was the very first game a lot of players ever saw, because Atari packed it in with the ProSystem when the console launched nationally in 1986.

The big upgrade over the original Pole Position is variety. Instead of a single circuit, you choose from four courses: the familiar Fuji Speedway, a fast oval called Test that resembles the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, Seaside, which echoes the street circuit at Long Beach, and Japan's Suzuka Circuit. Each one asks for a different rhythm, from flat-out speed on the oval to careful braking through Suzuka's twisting sections, and finding the racing line on each course is where the replay value lives.

The arcade original made its name on the idea in its title: earn a good grid position, then fight through the field before the timer runs out. That pressure, racing traffic and the clock at the same time, is what keeps Pole Position II exciting decades later. Every clean pass feels earned, and every clipped tire is a lesson for the next run.

British magazine Computer and Video Games gave the 7800 version a strong score at the time, and it holds a special place in the memories of everyone who unwrapped a ProSystem in the late 1980s. As a piece of 7800 history it is hard to beat: the launch-era pack-in, a faithful taste of Namco's arcade racing, and four tracks' worth of reasons to try for one more lap.
