Item Condition

This is a loose Pokemon Special Edition Game Boy Color system — the console itself, no box or manual included. It has been re-shelled, meaning the original internals have been fitted into a fresh new shell, giving it a clean, vibrant look that a decades-old handheld simply wouldn't have on its own. Coolection tests every piece of hardware before it hits the shelf, and this one was powering on and playing as expected — that said, as with any vintage hardware, performance can vary a little depending on your games, batteries, and setup. If you'd like a closer look before you commit, just hit the "Request Additional Pictures" button on this page and we'll send over high-resolution shots of the exact unit. Please refer to the provided photos for the exact details of the item's condition.

Item Description

The Pokemon Special Edition Game Boy Color is one of the most iconic handhelds Nintendo ever produced — a bold yellow unit adorned with Pikachu and friends, released to coincide with the peak of the late-90s Pokemon craze. It became the must-have piece of hardware for any kid deep in the world of Kanto, and today it remains one of the most recognizable and beloved Game Boy variants ever made. This re-shelled version brings those classic Pokemon aesthetics back in full force, housed in a fresh shell that looks sharp without the decades of wear a vintage unit typically carries.

The Game Boy Color was a genuine leap forward from the original Game Boy, delivering a full-color screen, improved processing power, and backward compatibility with the original Game Boy library. That means this unit plays not just Game Boy Color titles but the entire classic Game Boy catalog as well — hundreds of games spanning platformers, RPGs, puzzle games, and more. For Pokemon fans especially, it pairs perfectly with Red, Blue, Yellow, Gold, Silver, and Crystal, making it both a functional handheld and a piece of franchise history.

Re-shelled consoles have become a popular choice among collectors and retro players who want the authentic Game Boy Color experience with a presentation that feels refreshed rather than beat-up. The internals are original GBC hardware doing what they were always meant to do, and the exterior gives the setup a look that holds up well on a shelf or in your hands. Whether you're building out a period-correct Pokemon collection or just want a reliable, great-looking way to play the classic library, this hits all the right notes.

This one is made for the Pokemon fan who wants their hardware to match the energy of their cartridge collection.
