Item Description

Turn around on any route in Pokémon SoulSilver and your lead Pokémon is right behind you, waddling, hopping or towering over your trainer depending on its size. Every one of the 493 Pokémon in the series at the time can follow you this way, and stopping to talk to your partner brings little reactions to wherever you happen to be standing. That one feature turned a remake of the Game Boy Color classic Pokémon Silver into something more personal than the original ever could be.

Game Freak rebuilt Johto with the look and feel of the DS generation while keeping the bones that made Gold and Silver special. You still start in New Bark Town, still choose between Chikorita, Cyndaquil and Totodile, and still chase eight badges from Violet City to Blackthorn while Team Rocket schemes in the background. The Kimono Girls of Ecruteak play a bigger part in the story, and Lugia, SoulSilver's mascot, waits at the heart of it in the depths of the Whirl Islands. The touch screen handles menus and the Pokégear, the Pokéathlon adds a full sports-day side game, and Goldenrod's Game Corner swaps its slot machines for the addictive card puzzle Voltorb Flip.

Then comes the part that made Gold and Silver legends in the first place. Beat the Elite Four and the map opens onto Kanto, the region from Red and Blue, with eight more Gym Leaders to challenge and sixteen badges in all. At the very end, Red himself waits in silence at the summit of Mt. Silver for one of the most famous final battles in the franchise. Along the way the remakes layer in a Battle Frontier, a Safari Zone you can rearrange, support for the Pokéwalker pedometer, and a GB Sounds option that swaps in the original 8-bit music when nostalgia hits hard.

This is the French release, Pokémon Version Argent SoulSilver, which makes it a fun find for collectors of European Pokémon cartridges or for players who want to explore Johto in French. If Gold and Silver were part of your childhood, SoulSilver lets you relive that journey with every rough edge sanded off, with two complete adventures and a companion at your heels the whole way.
