Item Description

Pac-Man's 3D adventures had a devoted following in the early 2000s, and Pac-Man World 2 was the one many players remember best: a bright, bouncy platformer from 2002 with a surprisingly stiff challenge. Pac-Man World 2 Re-Pac brings it back with a full remake from Now Production, the studio behind the 2022 Pac-Man World Re-Pac, and it reworks the original in nearly every way while keeping its colorful heart.

The story is classic cartoon mischief. The ghosts sneak into Pac-Village, steal the Golden Fruit from the great tree at its heart and unleash Spooky, an ancient ghost who wants Pac-Land for himself. Pac-Man sets off through grassy plains, treetops, snowy mountains, an ocean world and a volcano, using his familiar toolkit: the rev roll for speed, the butt-bounce for smashing switches and stomping enemies, and quick jumps and attacks to get through the gauntlet. Each ghost now pilots a redesigned mech tied to its world, such as Inky's feather-firing Owl Mech in the treetops, and every boss has a bigger health bar to whittle down.

Re-Pac adds plenty beyond fresh visuals. Levels feel more open and hide more secrets, the world map now connects everything through Pac-Village, and in-level missions unlock costumes for Pac-Man. Time attack runs award gold, silver and bronze medals, including boss time trials, and a second player can join locally in a buddy mode, controlling a PAC-Drone that helps out by firing at enemies. There is even a new easy mode that makes Pac-Man immune to damage, which puts the full adventure within reach of younger players, and the cast is now fully voiced.

Collectors and nostalgia hounds will appreciate the Pac-Village arcade, where beating bosses unlocks playable versions of Pac-Man, Pac-Mania and Pac-Attack. Reviewers praised it as a faithful remake with plenty of smart improvements, and it makes a great introduction to Pac-Man as a platforming hero for a generation that only knows him from mazes. The volcano world is still tough, the music still builds to a big finish in each zone, and the whole thing has the kind of cheerful energy that suits a living room couch.
