Item Description

Mortal Kombat X picks up the story of the 2011 reboot and then does something bold for a fighting game: it hands the spotlight to the kids. Cassie Cage, daughter of Johnny Cage and Sonya Blade, leads a new squad of Earthrealm fighters that includes Jax's daughter Jacqui Briggs, Kenshi's son Takeda and Kung Lao's cousin Kung Jin. Their arc, set against the menace of the fallen Elder God Shinnok and a civil war in Outworld, gives NetherRealm Studios' cinematic story mode a sense of legacy, with Raiden, Sub-Zero, Scorpion and the old guard reshaped by everything that came before.

The fighting system is where the game earns its reputation. Every character comes with three variations, each changing their moves and weapons, so a fighter like Sub-Zero can be a straightforward Cryomancer, an ice-armored Unbreakable or a Grandmaster summoning frozen clones. Newcomers such as D'Vorah, Kotal Kahn, Erron Black and the double act of Ferra and Torr sit comfortably beside series veterans. A sprint meter, back from Mortal Kombat 4, raises the pace, while stage interactables, a page borrowed from Injustice: Gods Among Us, let you leap off walls or throw objects as part of a combo.

The three-tier meter returns from the 2011 game, powering EX specials, combo breakers and the slow-motion X-Ray attacks that show exactly how many bones just broke. Brutalities join Fatalities as a second, condition-based way to end a round, and they quickly became a fan favorite. Away from versus play, the first-person Krypt, Test Your Luck and Test Your Might give solo players plenty to unlock.

This is the PlayStation Hits release, Sony's budget reprint line for proven PlayStation 4 sellers, and it is the PAL edition printed for the European market. That combination gives it a small but real appeal for import shelves and for collectors tracking regional variants. More importantly, it is the base Mortal Kombat X experience in its original form: the 2015 game that set the template for NetherRealm's modern era and led directly into Mortal Kombat 11.

About the game

Mortal Kombat X is the tenth main game in the one-on-one fighting series and a sequel to the 2011 title Mortal Kombat. The game stays close to the visual style and the mechanics of the 2011 reboot. The main controls are still based on two types of punches and kicks, and blocking, to form combos with uppercuts, teleports, special moves that incorporate weapons and fatalities. The three-tiered energy from the previous title returns, making available X-Ray moves, powered up EX moves and combo breakers. As introduced in Injustice: Gods Among Us, characters can use the environment to re-position themselves or optionally use parts as weapons. Each character now has three variations with different moves and weapons. There is once again a sprinting gauge, returning from Mortal Kombat 4.
