You're playing two games threaded together, switching between the giant, brawling Bowser on the overworld and the tiny, puzzle-solving brothers navigating his body from the inside.

The gameplay is endlessly inventive. The brothers rely on their classic timed-button combat and brotherly teamwork underground, while Bowser brings a completely different energy above — breathing fire, punching enemies into oblivion, and growing to skyscraper scale for some of the most memorable boss encounters the DS ever produced. Those giant Bowser battles made full use of both screens and the stylus in ways that felt genuinely exciting rather than gimmicky, which is no small feat.

What really elevates Bowser's Inside Story above so many of its peers is the writing. Bowser has never been funnier or more endearing than he is here.
