Item Description

For the second time in the series' history, a game called Madden NFL 25 hit the shelves. The first, in 2013, celebrated the franchise's 25th edition; this one is EA Sports' 2024 release, built by EA Orlando and launched in August 2024 with San Francisco 49ers running back Christian McCaffrey on the cover.

The headline upgrade is BOOM Tech, a physics-based tackling system layered on top of the FieldSENSE foundation from earlier years. Collisions are worked out by the physics rather than drawn from a library of canned animations, so hits look and feel heavier and ball carriers have more control as they fight through contact. It also powers a reloaded Hit Stick, where timing decides whether a defender lands the big hit or the runner slips away for extra yards.

Presentation got a shake-up too. Two new commentary teams call the action, Mike Tirico with Greg Olsen and Kate Scott with Brock Huard, and Franchise mode adds a rebuilt draft night featuring NFL commissioner Roger Goodell at the podium. Superstar mode and Ultimate Team carry on alongside it, and local head-to-head keeps the oldest Madden tradition alive: settling a rivalry on the same couch.

Annual sports games work as time capsules, and this one captures the NFL heading into the 2024 season, with that year's launch rosters, uniforms and broadcast style. It is also the edition where BOOM Tech arrived, the tackling physics that changed how every collision in modern Madden plays out.
