Item Description
Patrick Mahomes landed on the cover of Madden NFL 20 after his 2018 MVP season, and the game itself chased the same kind of star power. EA built this edition around the idea that the league's biggest players should feel different from everyone else on the field, and it gave Madden a new story-driven career mode to match.
Face of the Franchise: QB1 starts in college. You create a backup quarterback, pick one of ten programs including Clemson, LSU, Oklahoma, Texas and USC, and try to lead a playoff run that shapes your draft stock. From there you work through the NFL Combine, field questions from general managers and wait out draft day before a career that can stretch across fifteen seasons, with dialogue choices that affect how teammates, coaches and reporters see you.
Superstar X-Factor is the other big idea. Elite players carry special abilities that switch on when they get into the zone by hitting in-game goals, so a hot quarterback or a dominant pass rusher can take over a game until the opposing side knocks him back out. It turns matchups into chess: you game-plan around the other team's stars instead of treating every player as a ratings number.
Today Madden NFL 20 is a snapshot of the 2019 season, with Mahomes at the start of his rise and the rosters, rookies and uniforms of that year all in place. Fire up a head-to-head game on the couch and it plays like a time capsule of the moment the league's new generation of quarterbacks took over.
