Complete in box: the disc, the manual and the original case, all original; anything beyond that is included only if you can see it in the photos. Look over the photos for condition, packaging and details. Discs are professionally resurfaced when they need it and tested before listing. It ships in a collector's bag or a hard plastic case.
It is Juliet Starling's eighteenth birthday, her high school has been overrun by zombies, and her boyfriend Nick is now a talking head dangling from her waist. That is the setup for Lollipop Chainsaw, Grasshopper Manufacture's 2012 hack-and-slash, directed by Goichi "Suda51" Suda and written by James Gunn, and it only gets stranger from there.
Juliet fights with a mix of cheerleader acrobatics and a roaring chainsaw, stunning the undead with pom-pom strikes before carving them up. Taking out three or more zombies in a single move triggers a "Sparkle Hunting" bonus, showering the screen with rainbows and extra medals, which you spend on new combos, upgrades and outfits. Before long the chainsaw gains a blaster attachment for picking off the undead at range, so fights shift between close-quarters carving and ranged pot-shots. Nick is more than a punchline: Juliet can plant his head on a headless zombie body to send him off on errands, and the sequences built around him are some of the game's silliest moments.
The trip through San Romero builds toward a festival of zombie rock lords, each boss drawn from a different corner of music history, from snarling punk to psychedelia, and the fights are as loud and absurd as that sounds. Silent Hill composer Akira Yamaoka handles the music, mixing thrashing originals with licensed tracks such as Toni Basil's "Mickey". The grindhouse presentation, candy-bright comic-book colors and a constant stream of fourth-wall jokes keep it from ever taking itself seriously.
It is a cult favorite in the truest sense: divisive with critics on release, adored by the players it was made for, and unlike anything else from a major publisher that year. If your taste runs to Suda51's punk-rock weirdness or James Gunn's gleefully gory comedy, the PS3 release is where Juliet's story first rolled out, exactly as Grasshopper originally put it together.
Lollipop Chainsaw is the 'un-deadly' story of sweet and killer zombie hunter Juliet Starling and her quest to uncover the root of a colossal zombie outbreak. With her wickedly awesome chainsaw in hand, Juliet slices, dices and splits her way through hordes of the undead, but soon realizes the horde is only the opening act to a festival of zombie rock lords determined to kill the chainsaw wielding cheerleader.
