Item Description

A small boy with a paper bag over his head wakes in a dead forest, and before long he is hiding in the reeds from a hunter's shotgun. That boy is Mono, and Little Nightmares II follows him and Six, the yellow-raincoated heroine of the first game, as they travel toward the Pale City and the Signal Tower whose transmission has warped everyone within reach. Tarsier Studios made the sequel bigger, stranger and more confident than the original, and it is one of the finest horror platformers of its generation.

The tension comes from how small you are. Mono creeps under furniture, climbs shelves and times his dashes past adults who could snatch him up in an instant, while Six works beside him, boosting him to ledges and helping solve environmental puzzles. You can even reach out and hold her hand, a small gesture that carries surprising weight. Mono can drag heavy weapons into a fight, but every swing of a hammer is slow and deliberate, so combat is a desperate last resort. He also has a strange connection to the city's televisions, a power that becomes central to the story.

Each chapter introduces a new nightmare. The School is ruled by porcelain-headed bullies and a Teacher whose neck stretches impossibly across the classroom, the Hospital hides mannequin patients that move only when your flashlight is off them and a Doctor who skitters across the ceiling, and the Pale City is filled with Viewers transfixed by their glowing screens while the Thin Man stalks the streets. The game tells all of this without spoken dialogue, through sound, light and creature designs that lodge themselves in your memory.

As a prequel, it reframes the original in ways best discovered firsthand, and hidden collectibles unlock additional story content for players who comb every corner. It is a tightly paced journey of a few evenings with an ending people still debate, and a striking piece of PS4-era horror to own on disc.
