Item Description

Hulk hurls a Chitauri invader across a city street, the Battle of New York erupts around the team, and Captain America's shield ricochets off a pile of plastic bricks. LEGO Marvel's Avengers takes the Marvel Cinematic Universe's first great team-up era and rebuilds it in Traveller's Tales' trademark style, retelling The Avengers and Avengers: Age of Ultron with side trips into Captain America: The First Avenger, Iron Man 3, Thor: The Dark World and Captain America: The Winter Soldier.

Because the game draws much of its dialogue straight from the films, the levels play like a slapstick remix of scenes you already know, with LEGO sight gags layered over familiar lines. Each hero brings something to the puzzle-solving: Iron Man and Thor take to the air, Hawkeye's arrows reach targets nobody else can, and Hulk smashes through what no one else can move. Team-up moves let pairs of Avengers combine into flashy joint attacks, and two players can share the whole adventure in local co-op.

Between story levels the game opens up into a series of hubs rather than a single city: S.H.I.E.L.D.'s base, Tony Stark's Malibu mansion, Clint Barton's farm, Washington, D.C., Sokovia, a South African shipyard and Asgard, each packed with races, side missions, gold bricks and hidden characters. Every hub even has a Stan Lee in Peril mission, a running gag that rewards completionists with the man himself as a playable character, and the roster reaches well beyond the movie headliners.

As a PS4 couch co-op game it hits a sweet spot: easy enough for younger players to jump in, full of jokes that land for adults who saw these films in theaters, and stuffed with enough collectibles to keep a completionist busy long after the credits. It is the early Avengers era of the MCU in its most playful form.
