Item Description

Rean Schwarzer spent the first two Cold Steel games as a student. In Trails of Cold Steel III he stands at the front of the classroom, an instructor at the newly founded Thors Branch Campus, responsible for a fresh Class VII of misfits that includes the fiery Juna Crawford, the reserved swordsman Kurt Vander and the deadpan Altina Orion. Nihon Falcom's Erebonia saga builds to its climax across these two games, and this PlayStation 5 release puts the pair side by side, the entire back half of one of the most ambitious storylines in RPGs.

Both games use Falcom's polished turn-based battle system. Arts are cast through the ARCUS II orbment, Crafts spend a character's CP on signature techniques, Combat Links pair allies for follow-up strikes, and breaking an enemy's guard opens it up for punishment. Cold Steel III introduced Brave Orders, party-wide commands bought with Brave Points that can flip a losing fight in a single turn, and IV builds on that foundation. Between the battles sit the series' famous free days, packed with bonding events, side requests, fishing, cooking and the card game Vantage Masters.

Cold Steel III plays out in an uneasy peace, with Rean torn between his duty to the Empire and his loyalty to his students as old enemies quietly regroup. Cold Steel IV picks up directly from that game's cliffhanger and brings the arc to an enormous finish, pulling in heroes from Trails in the Sky and the Crossbell games for a finale built as a reward for longtime fans. Characters you met dozens of hours earlier return with their own stories to finish, and that sense of a single, interconnected world is exactly why the series inspires so much devotion.

Falcom Sound Team jdk's soundtrack carries the emotional highs, from rousing battle themes to the quiet melodies of the campus. Because III ends where IV begins, having both together makes perfect sense: well over a hundred hours of storytelling, and the natural next step after Cold Steel I and II on the way to the Erebonia arc's last word.
