Life, as Ian Malcolm warned, finds a way, and in Jurassic World Evolution 2 it usually finds a way through your fences. Frontier Developments' 2021 sequel to its hit park-building sim hands you the keys to the most dangerous theme park business on Earth: design the habitats, breed the dinosaurs, keep the guests happy and hope the power holds when the storm rolls in.

The big leap from the first game is how much more alive the animals feel. Dinosaurs now have territories, social needs and comfort levels that shift with the space and company around them, and they will fight over turf if you get it wrong. For the first time, flying reptiles fill aviaries and marine reptiles cruise vast lagoons, while scientists with their own skills and traits staff your research, expeditions and incubation. Ranger teams and capture teams keep you busy when things inevitably go sideways.

There are four ways to play. The Campaign picks up after Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom, with dinosaurs loose across North America and you working to bring the situation under control. Chaos Theory is the highlight for film fans, a set of what-if scenarios that drop you into pivotal moments from the movies and dare you to run things better. Challenge mode tests you against tough objectives, and Sandbox lets you build the park you have always imagined. Jeff Goldblum returns as Ian Malcolm and BD Wong as Dr. Henry Wu, lending the whole thing a real touch of the films.

It is a deep management game in its own right, with finances to balance, guest amenities to plan and terrain tools to master, but it never forgets the thrill of watching a T. rex patrol a paddock you designed. On PS4 it is the closest a console game has come to letting you live out the Jurassic Park fantasy from the control room, mistakes and all.
