Item Description
Two arms, two shoulder buttons and a very long drop. In Heave Ho you are a little round body with a pair of stretchy arms, and the only way across each level is to grab onto something and swing. The left stick points your arms, each shoulder button locks the matching hand onto whatever it touches, and letting go at the wrong moment sends you tumbling off the screen. It sounds simple until you are dangling over a pit, one hand on a ledge and the other flailing for the next handhold.
With up to four players on one Switch, it becomes gloriously messy. Teammates can grab each other as easily as the scenery, so the best solutions often involve building a human chain: one player anchors to the wall while the others climb across their body or swing the group toward the goal. Some stages ask you to haul an object across the course together, and every round produces at least one moment where a friend saves the run at the last second, or lets go of your hand on purpose.
Le Cartel Studio, the team behind the grimy brawler Mother Russia Bleeds, went the opposite direction here with bright colors and silly physics, and Devolver Digital published it in 2019. Grabbing a golden rope triggers bonus minigames, from copying dance moves to tossing basketballs, that pay out coins for a bubble-gum machine full of costumes you can mix and match. Solo players get a shorter campaign plus a harder mode with trap-laden layouts, but this is at its best on the couch, where four sets of flailing arms and a lot of yelling are the whole point.

Heave Ho tasks up to four players with a simple goal – don’t fall to your death! Players will use their own two hands and the outstretched grip of their friends to grapple across each level on their way to victory. Grab one another’s hands, climb across dangling bodies, and swing your pals to safety in a wobbly, dangly mass of limbs. Customize your character with all manner of stylish accessories and zany accouterment in a vain attempt to remember who you are and which of your hands is the only thing between you and the plummet of doom.
