Gran Turismo has always been as much about loving cars as racing them, and Gran Turismo 7 leans into that idea harder than any entry before it. Polyphony Digital built it for the series' 25th anniversary and brought back what longtime players had missed during the more competition-focused Gran Turismo Sport: a proper single-player campaign where you buy, tune, race and sell your way up from humble used hatchbacks to the most exotic machines on Earth. Series creator Kazunori Yamauchi's fingerprints are everywhere, from the reverent car histories to the lovingly modeled interiors.
That campaign is anchored by the GT Café, where Menu Books send you out to collect specific sets of cars, and each finished menu comes with a short history of the machines and the people who built them. From there the world map fills out: Brand Central for new cars, a used dealership whose stock keeps rotating, Legend Cars for collectible classics, the Tuning Shop, the License Center and Missions. It is a car museum, a garage and a racing career rolled into one, and the License Center's bite-sized tests quietly teach braking points and racing lines before the big events ask you to use them.
On the track, Polyphony's handling model rewards smooth inputs and careful setup, and on PS5 the DualSense's adaptive triggers and haptic feedback let you feel the brakes bite and the tires scrabble for grip. Time of day and weather can shift mid-race on supported circuits, and the course list pairs real-world venues such as the Nürburgring, Spa-Francorchamps and Suzuka with returning Gran Turismo originals like Trial Mountain, Deep Forest Raceway and High Speed Ring.
Away from racing, Scapes drops your cars into a huge library of real-world photographs for some of the best car photography a console has offered, Music Rally turns a drive into a rhythm game, and two-player split screen keeps a couch head-to-head option alive. It plays like a love letter to car culture from the studio that defined the console driving sim, and the PS5 version is the one to own for the controller feel alone.
