Gran Turismo 5 is Polyphony Digital's flagship racing simulator for the PlayStation 3, released in November 2010 as the series' first full entry on the console. It was a massive technical achievement: more than a thousand cars, dynamic weather and time-of-day effects that debuted in the series on selected circuits, and a physics engine that set a high bar for console racing. This is the Collector's Edition named in the title, a special edition of one of the most ambitious racing games made for the platform.

The GT series has always been about reverence for automobiles, and Gran Turismo 5 takes that to an extreme. Its premium cars are modeled in meticulous detail, with fully modeled cockpit views, working headlights and wipers that sweep away the rain, and legendary circuits are recreated with obsessive accuracy, so the game feels less like an arcade racer and more like a moving museum of motorsport. NASCAR, World Rally Championship and Super GT licenses appear in the series for the first time, alongside kart racing and the Top Gear test track at Dunsfold Aerodrome, giving even longtime fans something new to sink into.

The online community that grew around the game kept it busy for years, with races of up to 16 players, until its online services closed in 2014, and the game went on to sell more than 10 million units. For the driving game devotee, Gran Turismo 5 remains a showcase of the PS3's era of first-party exclusives and of the care Polyphony Digital puts into every car on the grid.

Gran Turismo 5 is the fifth game in the Gran Turismo racing video game series. It expands on the game's Prologue version and is the first entry of the series to be developed for PlayStation 3. The game marks the first entry in the series with online races with support for up to 16 players. Over 1,000 cars, 26 different locations, and 71 different tracks are available in the game. Night racing also returns. World Rally Championship, NASCAR and Super GT licenses are utilized for the first time in the Gran Turismo series.
