This is a loose Game Genie for the Nintendo Entertainment System: the Game Genie unit only, with no box or code book. The photos are of this exact item — look them over closely. It ships carefully packed and protected.
Item Description
The NES Game Genie never looked like it belonged. Plug it in and the game cartridge juts out of the front of the console, door left open, like something you were not supposed to have. That was half the thrill. Power on and a grid of letters appears, and with up to three six- or eight-letter codes you can rewrite the rules of the game you are about to play.
Designed by Codemasters and sold by Galoob, it arrived only after a court fight: Nintendo sued to keep it off shelves, its US release was delayed, and the courts ultimately sided with Galoob in a case still cited in debates over what players may do with the games they own.
What the codes could do was the real fun. Endless lives in games notorious for giving you too few, invincibility, sky-high jumps, starting deep into a game you had never gotten past. Plenty of kids saw the later stages of Mega Man or Contra for the first time with a Game Genie plugged in, and the device carries that late-'80s and early-'90s living-room energy onto any NES shelf.
