Item Description

Gadwick, the Wizened scales with your mana in the best possible way. Cast it for X plus three blue mana and it enters as a 3/3 Human Wizard that draws X cards. Early, it is a reasonable body with a card attached. Late in the game, it is a fistful of fresh cards.

The second ability is what wins games: whenever you cast a blue spell, tap target nonland permanent an opponent controls. Every counterspell, cantrip and draw spell also taps down a blocker, an attacker or a mana rock, and in a mono-blue tempo deck that adds up to a clear path for your fliers turn after turn. As a commander, Gadwick anchors mono-blue spells decks that like to keep opponents' best creatures and artifacts tapped, and it slots into Wizard typal lists as both card draw and control.

This is the Throne of Eldraine extended-art printing from 2019, collector number 344, a rare illustrated by Colin Boyer, in non-foil. The extended-art frame carries the illustration out toward the card's edges, giving the old wizard a bigger stage than the standard version.
