Item Description
Fervent Champion is a portrait of a real Magic player. The reigning World Champion traditionally gets to help create a card, and this one honors Javier Domínguez, the 2018 World Champion, as its flavor text proudly notes. Fittingly, the card plays every bit as fast as a champion should.
For one red mana you get a 1/1 Human Knight with first strike and haste. Whenever it attacks, another attacking Knight you control gets +1/+0, and equip abilities that target it cost three less. That last line is the real hook: Embercleave, also from Throne of Eldraine, equips to it for free, and many popular Equipment costs vanish entirely, turning a one-drop into a hasty, first-striking threat by turn two. In Commander it is a strong fit for Knight decks and Equipment builds that want an early carrier for their gear.
This is the Throne of Eldraine extended-art printing, collector number 360, illustrated by Steve Argyle, in non-foil. The extended frame gives Argyle's champion the full width of the card, a nice keepsake from the era when Domínguez held the title.
