For twenty-six years, Garou: Mark of the Wolves was the last word in the Fatal Fury saga, a cliffhanger of a fighting game that left Rock Howard and an older, wiser Terry Bogard frozen in time. Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves, released by SNK in 2025, finally picks the story back up in South Town and shows that the long wait was worth it. The bold, graffiti-bright art style makes every frame pop, and this is also the first Fatal Fury with English voice acting.
The new REV System sits at the core of every match. A meter beneath your health bar powers REV Arts, stronger versions of special moves, along with REV Accel for chaining them together, REV Blows and REV Guard, but push it too far and it overheats, leaving your guard vulnerable to breaking. The S.P.G. system lets you choose before each round the stretch of your health bar where you get a power boost, so you decide whether to explode out of the gate or hold back for a comeback. Hyper Defense builds on the series' perfectly timed Just Defend, rewarding sharp reads with recovered health and an instant counterattack. Newcomers can choose the streamlined Smart Style controls, while the Arcade Style scheme keeps every technique available.
The launch roster of seventeen blends history and surprise. Terry, Rock, B. Jenet, Gato, Hotaru and Tizoc return from Mark of the Wolves, Mai Shiranui and Billy Kane rejoin the fight, and the former boss Kain R. Heinlein is finally playable. Newcomers include Preecha, a Muay Thai fighter trained by Joe Higashi, and Vox Reaper, an apprentice of the assassin Grant, while football star Cristiano Ronaldo and DJ Salvatore Ganacci appear as wildly unexpected guests. A single-player story mode lets you roam South Town as a roster fighter, challenging rivals and leveling up skills.
Built with rollback netcode and cross-play in mind, City of the Wolves is SNK's statement that Fatal Fury belongs in the modern fighting game conversation. On PlayStation 5 it is the long-awaited sequel to one of the most admired 2D fighters ever made, and the moment the Legend of the Hungry Wolf continues at last.
