Item Description

Far Cry 4 introduces its villain with a pen and a plate of crab rangoon. Ajay Ghale has barely crossed into Kyrat, a fictional Himalayan nation, when Pagan Min steps off a helicopter in a fuchsia suit, stabs one of his own soldiers with a pen for spoiling the welcome, and soon seats Ajay at his dinner table with a request to wait right there. Most players bolt and start a revolution. The ones who sit tight and wait uncover one of the best-kept secrets in the series.

Ajay came home to scatter his mother's ashes and instead inherits her war. The Golden Path rebels want the son of their founder, and their two rival leaders, the traditionalist Sabal and the pragmatic Amita, pull the story in different directions with choices that shape who controls Kyrat by the end. Troy Baker's Pagan is the scene-stealer, a charming, monstrous host who keeps phoning in commentary, and the supporting cast leans into the series' strangeness: the drug-fueled antics of Yogi and Reggie, the arms dealer Longinus and the return of Hurk. Dreamlike detours into Shangri-La, a painted, mythic realm where you fight alongside a white tiger, break up the guerrilla war beautifully.

Ubisoft Montreal built on Far Cry 3's island sandbox by going vertical. A grappling hook, a wingsuit and the little Buzzer gyrocopter turn mountains into playgrounds, and you liberate regions by climbing bell towers and storming outposts and fortresses held by Pagan's Royal Army. Then there is the wildlife: ride an elephant through a checkpoint gate, get dive-bombed by an eagle, or learn the hard way why honey badgers have a reputation. Missions into the high Himalayas add thin air and oxygen tanks to the mix, and Cliff Martinez's score blends Nepalese instruments with a modern electronic pulse. The game was also built with drop-in online co-op, where a friend joined as a Guns for Hire mercenary.

The Limited Edition was the launch-window version Ubisoft offered through pre-orders, promoted with the Hurk's Redemption bonus missions and an exclusive harpoon gun called the Impaler. On PlayStation 4, Far Cry 4 is the series at the height of its open-world confidence, the entry that took the formula Far Cry 3 perfected and gave it the roof of the world as a playground.
