Item Description

Fallout: New Vegas opens with a bullet to the head. You are the Courier, robbed of a mysterious package, shot by a smooth-talking man in a checkered suit and left in a shallow grave outside the town of Goodsprings, where a friendly robot named Victor digs you out. From there, Obsidian Entertainment's 2010 RPG lets you go anywhere and side with almost anyone in the struggle for the Mojave, and that freedom is why so many players rank it at the top of the series.

Built on the foundation of Fallout 3, New Vegas pushes much harder into role-playing. A reputation system tracks how each faction and town sees you, dialogue checks reward the skills you invest in, and the power struggle over Hoover Dam can tip toward the New California Republic, Caesar's Legion, the enigmatic Mr. House of the Lucky 38, or your own independent path with the cheerful securitron Yes Man. Companions such as the sniper Boone, the hard-drinking caravaneer Cass and the cyber-dog Rex come with their own stories. An optional Hardcore mode makes you manage thirst, hunger and the weight of your ammo, and V.A.T.S. returns for the series' signature slow-motion gunplay. Obsidian's team included veterans of the original Fallout games, and that pedigree shows in the writing.

The Ultimate Edition gathers the game with its four story add-ons plus the Gun Runners' Arsenal and Courier's Stash packs. Dead Money traps you in the haunted Sierra Madre casino with an explosive collar around your neck. Honest Hearts takes you to Utah's Zion Canyon and the scarred, soft-spoken Joshua Graham. Old World Blues is a gonzo science-fiction comedy set among the lunatic scientists of Big MT, and Lonesome Road closes the arc with the Courier's past finally catching up through the mysterious Ulysses. Together they turn a great game into a remarkably complete one.

It launched with a reputation for bugs, but the writing, the factions and the sheer number of ways to finish the story have kept it in conversation ever since. The Ultimate Edition is the full Mojave on the 360, every road out of Goodsprings and every add-on in one package.

About the game

In this first-person Western RPG, the player takes on the role of Courier 6, barely surviving after being robbed of their cargo, shot and put into a shallow grave by a New Vegas mob boss. The Courier sets out to track down their robbers and retrieve their cargo, and winds up getting tangled in the complex ideological and socioeconomic web of the many factions and settlements of post-nuclear Nevada.
