The thing players remember first about F.E.A.R. is not the ghosts. It is the soldiers. The Replica troops who fill its offices and industrial complexes flank, flush you out with grenades, kick over tables for cover and call out to one another as they adapt, and Monolith Productions built the slow-motion reflex mechanic to help you survive them. Firefights explode into storms of sparks, concrete dust and shattered glass, and even years later they have a chaotic, tactile intensity few shooters have matched.
You play as Point Man, the newest member of First Encounter Assault Recon, a team sent in when Paxton Fettel, a telepathic commander with a mind link to an army of cloned soldiers, goes rogue. The trail leads into the dark heart of Armacham Technology Corporation and to Alma, a little girl in a red dress whose presence bends reality around you. The horror is patient and economical: a figure at the end of a hallway, a sudden vision, a ladder you will think twice about climbing again, and the answering machine messages and laptops scattered through the facilities piece together what Armacham was really doing.
This PlayStation 3 port adds content of its own. It includes the Instant Action mode from the console versions, in which you race through modified levels for time, kills and accuracy, plus a PS3-exclusive bonus mission that follows the Delta Force recon team through ATC headquarters before they encounter Alma, and an exclusive street sweeper shotgun to take into the fight.
F.E.A.R. launched a horror shooter series that fans still argue about and admire, and Alma became a horror figure in her own right, carrying through Project Origin and F.E.A.R. 3. Starting here gives the sequels their full weight, and the PS3 version's extra mission gives returning players a new piece of the story to see. If your idea of a great shooter is enemies smart enough to scare you as much as the ghosts do, this is the one that set the standard.

About the game
The Xbox 360 port of F.E.A.R. contains an Instant Action mode for single-player. In this mode, players are dropped into a modified level and must get to a designated point as quickly as possible whilst simultaneously killing as many enemies as possible and being as accurate as possible. Graphically, this versions is equivalent to the PC version on maximum settings with an high dynamic range lighting, an advanced particle system and HD textures. It also features an exclusive bonus level not found in the PC original, which depicts Holiday's attempt to extract Bishop from ATC headquarters. These versions also features a new weapon, dual wielded automatic handguns. The PlayStation 3 port of F.E.A.R. features the same Instant Action mode from the Xbox 360 version. It also has its own exclusive additional weapon (a street sweeper shotgun) and bonus mission, which depicts the Delta Force recon team's journey through ATC headquarters prior to encountering Alma. Like the Xbox version, the game's native resolution was 720p, but the other enhancements were removed for this version.
