This is a loose Dogbone Controller, coming to you as the controller itself — no box or manual included. Coolection has tested this controller and it was functioning as expected, though as with any piece of vintage hardware, feel and responsiveness can vary a little depending on your setup and console. If you'd like a closer look before committing, just hit the "Request Additional Pictures" button on this page and we'll send over high-resolution shots of the exact controller in hand. Please refer to the provided photos for the exact details of the item's condition.

Item Description

The Dogbone Controller is Nintendo's refined take on the original NES gamepad, released later in the console's lifespan to address one of the most common complaints about the classic rectangular design — those sharp, hand-punishing corners. The rounder, more ergonomic shell that gave this controller its nickname fits the hands far more naturally during long play sessions, making it a genuine quality-of-life upgrade over the original brick-style pad. Functionally it's fully compatible with the NES, so every game in your library plays exactly as it should.

Underneath the redesigned shell you get the same familiar layout — D-pad, Start, Select, and the A and B buttons — just repositioned slightly to feel more comfortable and intuitive. It connects via the standard NES controller port, meaning it works seamlessly with both the front-loading NES and the top-loading NES variant. If you're building out a proper retro NES setup or your original controllers are showing their age, the Dogbone is the most comfortable way to play the library.

Collectors and NES enthusiasts often seek this one out specifically because it came bundled with the top-loader NES model near the end of the console's production run, giving it a little extra history as part of that chapter of Nintendo's story. Finding a solid, working example on its own is always satisfying — whether you're replacing a worn-out pad, rounding out a complete NES collection, or just upgrading your daily-driver controller.

This one is for the NES fan who wants to actually play their games in comfort, or anyone who appreciates that Nintendo was still quietly improving its hardware right up to the end.
