Item Description

Avyanna is a mercenary with a sharp tongue and an empty purse, and she has no intention of saving the world. In Disciples: Liberation that indifference does not last. Hired for a job in the war-torn land of Nevendaar, she and her childhood friend Orion are drawn into a struggle between four peoples who are sick of fighting their gods' endless wars: the human Empire, the demonic Legions of the Damned, the Undead Hordes and the Elven Alliance. What starts as a paycheck becomes the question of who, if anyone, should rule what is left.

Frima Studio built Liberation as a fresh start for a dark fantasy strategy series that began on PC in 1999. You explore Nevendaar as a single hero, gathering resources, capturing mines and recruiting units, then fight in turn-based battles on hex grids where positioning and status effects matter. Avyanna fights alongside companions and an army recruited from dozens of unit types, and she grows through skill trees and up to four distinct classes. The hub is Yllian, a forgotten city of angels that you rebuild as your alliances deepen.

The real draw is choice. Most quests branch, and decisions ripple forward into later regions, changing who greets you as a friend and who comes for you with a sword. Each of the four races has its own motives and remembers how Avyanna treats it, and along the way she can recruit companions and pursue romances. The world is grim and mature, with moral gray throughout, but the writing laces it with a mercenary's gallows humor.

The structure runs across three acts whose regions you can tackle in your preferred order, and five different endings reflect the kind of leader Avyanna becomes. If you miss the hero-led exploration and tactical battles of King's Bounty and the original Disciples games, Liberation brings that formula to PlayStation 4 with modern visuals and a story that bends to your decisions.
